Upfront Expectations
I asked the Simpsonville Board today for some of their most memorable Rotary experiences. Former Assistant Governor Andy Goodson told the story of being a new Rotarian. Dave Knapp was President and asked Andy if he would edit the bulletin. Andy said that he would. Dave said "No, I want you to think about it." Andy said that he didn't have to think about it.
President Knapp said "You don't understand. If you agree to be bulletin editor, you also agree to win the best bulletin in the District award." Andy still accepted. Simpsonville Rotarians do that. Needless to say, Andy's bulletin won the best bulletin in the District award.
Good leaders communicate high expectations.
