Kathryn Smith

Rotarians attending District Conferences have seen Kathryn Smith's Neighbor Bedes, necklaces made from multi-colored stones, trinkets, Roosevelt dimes, wooden parrots and other items assembled from around the world. Bedes in old English means "prayer," and so the neighbor bedes are literally a prayer for the world. Each necklace comes with a card saying where each trinket is from. It takes Kathryn about two hours to assemble the necklace and she sells them for $50. The revenues go to polio plus. So far, Kathyrn has sent $10,000 to the Rotary Foundation for Polio. Kathryn is another example of what Bob Dotson called "ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
