Marvin Lord
When I ask clubs about memorable Rotary experiences, Group Study Exchange is frequently mentioned. Sometimes the connections are beyond memorable.
Assistant Governor Marvin Lord (Spartan West) tells the following story. In May, 2003, he picked up the Brazil GSE team in Spartanburg and met this beautiful team member named Luciana. He chauffered the team around the various Spartanburg venues. On the next day, he received an e-mail from the Brazilian team leader inviting him to meet the team in Greenville and to attend a Music on Main Street event. Marvin joined them. The team journeyed to Walhalla, where there was an old car festival and shag dancing. Marvin joined them.
The team visited New York before returning to Brazil. Knowing a good thing when he saw it, Marvin joined them. In July, Marvin flew to Brazil, met Luciana's parents and asked for her hand in marriage. They were married in January, 2004.
Today, Marvin and Luciana live in Spartanburg and are expecting their second child in February. Memorable experiences indeed.
